Don't be afraid to let people know what you do. You would be surprised how many people have been thinking about hiring someone to do their lawn maintenance but haven't done it because they are either too lazy, or they didn't know who to call. I spend alot of time on the phone with landscapers and lawn business owners across the country, and one of the things that I have noticed is unprofessionalism of some business owners when they answer their phones. As a business owner, your loyalty is to your customers, because without them you are out of a job. Having said that, some business owners need to learn some basic customer service skills. For example, if you get a call on your business cell phone and don't recogmize the number, you should not answer the phone by saying, "Hello." If you do that, is sounds like I accidently called someone's house and they sound very annoyed that I am bothering them. Is that the image you want to portray?
Instead, you should answer your phone, "Clean Cut Landscaping, this is Bill..." now as a potential client, I know exactly who I am talking to and you sound much more professional.
